Bill Cosby was once “America’s Favorite Dad” in the 1980’s, but the #MeToo movement quickly changed the nation’s perspective on who they recognized as Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show. What we see on television and the big screen are meant to astound us, but the secrets that lie behind the scenes are capable of leaving us more speechless than the pictures themselves. It has become a necessity over the past few decades to question everything we see.

Film and television suggest glamor, along with the high status lifestyle of an actor. It holds the power to make your average Joe wish they could switch places with anyone in that industry. Clayton Prince, however, would warn the average Joe to be cautious of what he’s wishing for.

Show Notes: The Untold story from Clayton Prince, actor on the Cosby Show & the movie, Hairspray

“Sometimes the safest place is in the heart of danger”

Clayton Prince’s parents are from West Philadelphia, born and raised, and placed him into the best private schools in the Philadelphia area. His father grew up in the gang life at the start of an early age, and made it a goal to never expose his son to the roughness of the streets. Clayton placed school as the only priority he had to focus on.

Once he left Temple University as a math major, Prince began couch hoping for an acting gig that would place him in the Hollywood Hall of Fame. He traveled to New York City at the age of 19 where he landed his first major role in the popular cult classic, The Last Dragon. Shortly after the film hit theaters successfully, Clayton Prince found himself competing for a role as Denise Huxtable’s boyfriend on the Cosby Show. For four years, Prince finally received the recognition he’d hoped for.

Life On-set of The Cosby Show: “America’s Favorite Dad”

Until the second season of the Cosby Show, Clayton Prince lived on a seven dollar a day budget. He understood that it would take time to see money roll in, but he was thankful for the recognition he received walking down the street. Prince was surrounded by “black royalty” at the time, yet felt intimidated by Bill Cosby’s presence.

To date, Prince uses the advice of Bill Cosby to drive his motivation in his career. He recalls Cosby saying “always take a chance, and always maintain your dignity.”

The Unknown Secrets of The Cosby Show, and Damage That Was Done

Clayton Prince admits to using admiration for Cosby as a motivator to reach his highest acting potential in his early acting years. However, the legacy of the Cosby Show was tarnished for Prince with the recent news of the #MeToo movement.  Although, Clayton Prince was proud of his work as Denise’s boyfriend, he was greatly disappointed by the actions of his idol.

Although Prince was grateful for the opportunity that Bill Cosby gave him, it was more important to not minimize the trauma that the victims endured when the Bill Cosby scandal surfaced. Admittedly, Clayton Prince was not surprised when the accusations against his fellow co-star turned into a monumental, and national movement for sexual assault awareness.

The Power Behind Production Companies

What Clayton Prince Thinks Was The Start Of Bill Cosby’s Downfall

In the 1960-1980’s, Bill Cosby was one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. Clayton Prince understands the credit Cosby once deserved, but compared his power to figures such as Hugh Hefner, Michael Vick, and Harvey Weinstein.

With the rape accusations that cirrculated around the PlayBoy Mansion, Prince suggests to Sean V. Bradley and L.A. Williams that perhaps Cosby picked up some “tips” from Hugh Hefner. Prince’s candid responses regarding industry blackmail and financial cover-ups left Sean and L.A. speechless.

“...And This Here is Seaweed. J Stubbs!”

It’s 1988, and Clayton Prince was back on the big screen in the movie Hairspray. As the role of Seaweed J. Stubbs, his mother was Motormouth Maybelle played by Ruth Brown. Unlike his other notable co-stars like Ricki Lake, Sonny Bono, and Jerry Stiller, Ruth Brown goes down in music history. She is the first person to have a #1 hit song on Atlantic Records. Additionally, her credibility even allowed for Atlantic Records to go by the nickname “the house that Ruth built”.

Without spilling too many details, Clayton Prince has a groundbreaking story that should be heard!
