Bill Cosby was once “America’s Favorite Dad” in the 1980’s, but the #MeToo movement quickly changed the nation’s perspective on who they recognized as Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show. What we see on television and the big screen are meant to astound us, but the secrets that lie behind the scenes are capable of leaving us more speechless than the pictures themselves. It has become a necessity over the past few decades to question everything we see.

Film and television suggest glamor, along with the high status lifestyle of an actor. It holds the power to make your average Joe wish they could switch places with anyone in that industry. Clayton Prince, however, would warn the average Joe to be cautious of what he’s wishing for.

The Against All Odds Radio Show Presents:

The Untold story from Clayton Prince, actor on The Cosby Show & the movie, Hairspray

The Cosby Show, Bill Cosby, Americas's favorite dad, Philadelphia, Against All Odds, television, Clayton Prince

During this week’s jaw-dropping episode of Against All Odds Radio show, Sean V. Bradley and L.A. Williams had the opportunity to have a tell-all interview with actor Clayton Prince. Young Prince was excited to have Bill Cosby as a co-star, and truthfully who wouldn’t at the time? They discuss Prince’s childhood, his early acting years, and his experience as a part of America’s favorite family on The Cosby Show. The trio spark great conversation, and touch on what Clayton Prince is up to these days.

About Clayton Prince

Show Notes: The Untold story from Clayton Prince, actor on the Cosby Show & the movie, Hairspray

“Sometimes the safest place is in the heart of danger”

Clayton Prince’s parents are from West Philadelphia, born and raised, and placed him into the best private schools in the Philadelphia area. His father grew up in the gang life at the start of an early age, and made it a goal to never expose his son to the roughness of the streets. Clayton placed school as the only priority he had to focus on.

Once he left Temple University as a math major, Prince began couch hoping for an acting gig that would place him in the Hollywood Hall of Fame. He traveled to New York City at the age of 19 where he landed his first major role in the popular cult classic, The Last Dragon. Shortly after the film hit theaters successfully, Clayton Prince found himself competing for a role as Denise Huxtable’s boyfriend on the Cosby Show. For four years, Prince finally received the recognition he’d hoped for.

Life On-set of The Cosby Show: “America’s Favorite Dad”

Until the second season of the Cosby Show, Clayton Prince lived on a seven dollar a day budget. He understood that it would take time to see money roll in, but he was thankful for the recognition he received walking down the street. Prince was surrounded by “black royalty” at the time, yet felt intimidated by Bill Cosby’s presence.

To date, Prince uses the advice of Bill Cosby to drive his motivation in his career. He recalls Cosby saying “always take a chance, and always maintain your dignity.”

The Unknown Secrets of The Cosby Show, and Damage That Was Done

Clayton Prince admits to using admiration for Cosby as a motivator to reach his highest acting potential in his early acting years. However, the legacy of the Cosby Show was tarnished for Prince with the recent news of the #MeToo movement.  Although, Clayton Prince was proud of his work as Denise’s boyfriend, he was greatly disappointed by the actions of his idol.

Although Prince was grateful for the opportunity that Bill Cosby gave him, it was more important to not minimize the trauma that the victims endured when the Bill Cosby scandal surfaced. Admittedly, Clayton Prince was not surprised when the accusations against his fellow co-star turned into a monumental, and national movement for sexual assault awareness.

The Power Behind Production Companies

What Clayton Prince Thinks Was The Start Of Bill Cosby’s Downfall

In the 1960-1980’s, Bill Cosby was one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. Clayton Prince understands the credit Cosby once deserved, but compared his power to figures such as Hugh Hefner, Michael Vick, and Harvey Weinstein.

With the rape accusations that cirrculated around the PlayBoy Mansion, Prince suggests to Sean V. Bradley and L.A. Williams that perhaps Cosby picked up some “tips” from Hugh Hefner. Prince’s candid responses regarding industry blackmail and financial cover-ups left Sean and L.A. speechless.

“...And This Here is Seaweed. J Stubbs!”

It’s 1988, and Clayton Prince was back on the big screen in the movie Hairspray. As the role of Seaweed J. Stubbs, his mother was Motormouth Maybelle played by Ruth Brown. Unlike his other notable co-stars like Ricki Lake, Sonny Bono, and Jerry Stiller, Ruth Brown goes down in music history. She is the first person to have a #1 hit song on Atlantic Records. Additionally, her credibility even allowed for Atlantic Records to go by the nickname “the house that Ruth built”.

Without spilling too many details, Clayton Prince has a groundbreaking story that should be heard!

Show Notes: Find Out How Sean V. Bradley Is The Star Of Season 2 Of A Hit TV Show

Little Sean V. Bradley: The Six Year Old Entrepreneur

Sean didn’t have the typical childhood that we’re all familiar with, but has always had a keen eye for making money. His household was full of unfathomable violence, and oftentimes, neglect. This instance made young Sean find his own ways to avoid being home, and make money.

By the time Sean was 12 years old, his mother made the decision to send her son to Bonnie Brae School for boys. After developing drinking and drug habits at such a young age, Sean spent three years at this private facility after being promised only 18 months.

“I just wish someone would have stepped up.” – Sean V. Bradley

Life In The Limelight: Raving, Clubbing, And Drug Trafficking

As transparent as Sean could be, he explained the major role he played in the infamous club, Limelight, which was highlighted in the documentary LimeLight (2011), directed by Billy Corben. Hosting VIP parties with figures like Boy George and Grace Jones, Sean lived a fast-paced lifestyle making thousands of dollars a night by selling ecstasy.

After paying his way through Rider University by 18 years old, Sean offers a tell-all story about his experience living a double life as a student by day, and an international drug trafficker by night. In less than one year, Sean made about $2 million by the age of 19.

“I was on top of the world!” -Sean V. Bradley

The Long Haul To Federal Prison: Life Of Hustling Costs Sean V. Bradley Years In Prison

Handing Out Fifths Of Whiskey

In just that short amount of time, four federal agencies were on Sean’s tail. The Bayshore Task Force, Woodbridge Police Department, U.S Secret Service, and the DEA finally got a hold onto Sean. By then, he faced up to 20 years in prison.

Sean V. Bradley went back to his mode of survival, and did what he could to make money while in prison, even if that meant dealing with the Italian and Russian mob. L.A Williams was able to bring some real emotions out of Sean as he opened up about the darkest time in his life.

Transitioning: The BIG 180 Turn

After only serving three years out of a possible 20 year sentence, Sean was guided by an internal voice to change his way of living. Sean gravitated towards becoming an automotive salesman. After just five years as a showroom salesman, Sean took a leap of faith in 2004 and began his own business: Dealer Synergy.

Little did Sean know, his business that started with just $1,000 would eventually turn into a $50 million dollar enterprise. As he would consider himself “the MMA specialist for money and business”, Sean V. Bradley has developed his career to be the best entrepreneur he could ever be.

The S.V.B Legacy

Throughout the radio episode, Sean offers much of his success and gratitude to his wife, Karen Bradley, four children, and two pugs. He acknowledged that the foundation of fatherhood and marriage has kept him surpassing his wildest dreams.

With so many things that Sean has accomplished, you don’t want to miss out on an amazing story of triumph and resilience on the show coming soon to a major television network!

From Prison To Netflix’s Top 10 White Boy: Seth Ferranti

Life As An Outlaw

Seth didn’t have an easy life growing up. He got roped into drugs at the age of 13. By the age of 17, he was supplying marijuana and LSD to 15 colleges in five states. When he inevitably was arrested, he was facing a 70-year sentence in jail. With this in mind, he planned to fake his suicide and go on the run. This landed him on the US Marshals Top-15 Most Wanted list.

After being on the Top 15 most wanted for about two years Seth was captured by the government. He was relieved when he got caught. Seth was tired of living a lie, and missed his family who he hadn’t seen since faking his death. He was only 22 years old, but he was facing a 25-year prison sentence.

Writing for Vice, Don Diva, Penthouse, Real Crime Magazine & More

When Seth first went to prison he started having thoughts of who he could be after his sentence. He kept asking himself how he could gain an edge, so he wouldn’t have to return.

While in prison, Seth obtained his associates, bachelors, and masters degrees. It was during his courses that he found his passion for writing. Additionally, he had a lot of inspiration. During that time, he read a lot of books by prison writers. It didn’t sit well with him that prisoners never had a say in their own narrative. He wanted to show the humanity of the people the media painted as monsters.

Seth also saw there was an interest in these stories because of the urban fiction boom in the early 90’s. He realized he could take the stories he had heard, and write about them. While in prison, he wrote for a lot of different publications. This is also when he began writing articles for Vice about prison. However, it wasn’t until he got out of prison that his career in journalism took off.

Writing and Producing A Netflix Top 10 Movie: White Boy

No matter what Prison he was sent to, Seth kept hearing stories about a guy named “White Boy” Rick. So, he reached out to his wife to try and find Rick’s information. When Seth first corresponded with Rick, he wasn’t sure what to do with the information. Seth didn’t think Rick’s story fit the “gangster” characters that he was trying to write about. Seth had to do his research on the war on drugs and corruption. It wasn’t until later that he was fully able to wrap his head around Rick’s story.

The documentary came when Seth got the chance to interview Shawn Rech for Vice. Rech had a movie on showtime called A Murder in the Park, a story about a wrongful conviction.  Rech, being mostly inspired by true crime stories, took an interest in Ferranti early on. When they met up again, Ferranti shared the work he had done with White Boy Rick. Rech was excited by this, and asked if Seth could get him to do a documentary.

Due to Seth’s passion for storytelling, he had always thought about doing movies in addition to his writing. Instead of requesting financial compensation for his work, he requested Rech’s mentorship. Seth understood he could gain a lot of industry insight if they worked together.  This led Seth to agree to procure Rick for the documentary, but in return wanted to get Rick out of jail. To mentor and teach documentary directing was Rech’s goal in mind for Ferranti.

Run A Business Like UFC MMA Gracie Jiu Jitsu Champion Mindset Phil Migliarese Self Defense Training

In this week’s episode, Sean V. Bradley, CSP, and L.A. Williams dive into the the world of business. More specifically, they discuss the champion mindset. Who better to invite as a guest than a trainer of many champions.

Joining Sean and L.A. is Phil Migliarese. Phil is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu 6th degree Black belt. He has not only trained many notable champions, but he has also been trained by a champion himself.

About Phil Migliarese

Phil Migliarese was born a fighter. Additionally, his father was a both a boxer and an entrepreneur. So, it is natural that Phil became both as well. He grew up learning how to defend himself and fell in love with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Then, he watched a video about it. It featured Hélio Gracie using jiu Jitsu to defeat his opponents of all shapes and sizes.

Phil took this passion and trained under Relson Gracie at the Gracie University of Jiu-Jitsu in Torrance California. To further balance his skillset, he didn’t stop there. Phil went on to study yoga in India and Muay Thai boxing in Thailand.

Today, Phil is the founder and head instructor of Balance Studios. With more than 40 affiliated gyms worldwide, they specialize in teaching Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Show Notes: Run A Business Like A Champion Fighter: The Champion Mindset

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu: Revolutionary Self-Defense

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu started with Hélio Gracie. He was a fighter that revolutionized martial arts. While he didn’t invent Jiu-Jitsu, Hélio revolutionized Jiu-Jitsu to help people of all sizes. His eldest son, Royce Gracie, is known for dominating in his first five UFC tournaments. Additionally, he is referred to by some as the Godfather of MMA. With this in mind, Phil was trained by Relson Gracie, Hélio’s son, where he earned his black belts.

Training the Mind Of A Champion To Run A Business

“The concept of self-defense is important. Part one is defending yourself from yourself and negative self-talk. Part two is the rest of the world. If you get by yourself, the rest of the world is easy. ”

Phil Migliarese

Mind Of A Champion

The mind of a champion starts with wanting to win. While failure is a part of life, you can not let it get to you. This will create a failure mindset. A failure mindset can hinder you from reaching your desired goals. With this in mind, you need to combat failures with a tenacious spirit. You may not have had success this time but there is always next time. From there, you can work on yourself. You can train hard and come back bigger and stronger to achieve your goal.

Additionally, Phil believes a big part of having a tenacious spirit is being creative. In other words, you have to understand your situation. Then, you can find a way to alter your path. Not only will this help you get back to where you want to be, but it will also help you your desired goal.

Run A Business With A Business Champion’s Mindset

The mind of a champion spans across all industries and disciplines, even business. Phil conquers problems in business the same as he does on the mat. Not only does he get creative, but he adapts to changing situations.

Not only is creativity and adaptability important, but you must also change the way you think. Part of having a business champion’s mindset is investigating before you invest. If you are looking to grow wealth or invest you have to do your research. Also, it is important to find an investment that works with your personality style and interests.

Train Like A Champion To Run A Business Like A Champion

Once you have the champion mindset, you also have to equip yourself with the needed skills in your field. Like a champion fighter, you must develop the skills you need to ensure victory. This can only be attained with training.

From there, you have to put in the time. Discipline is the best place to start, but you must also cut out distractions. Finally, after working hard, the training and development you put into your craft will set you on the path to victory.

Tips For Success: Insider Secrets & Advice From A Hollywood Movie Producer, Music Industry Elite, & The Creator of “Pop Star”, George Caseres

Tips For Success To Become A Music Industry Elite

If you want to be in the music industry, it takes more than just your sound. It also takes more than how you look. While both your sound and look are important, there is much more to it. In a nutshell, it’s the whole package.

What does your social media following look like? Do you have a good following of people who already enjoy what you make? Having a good standing on social media can be alluring for industry professionals.

Tips For Success: It’s Also About the Hits

In addition to having followers, you also have to have hits. Good songs just aren’t good enough. You need that song. That anthem that everyone knows. getting there is hard, but when you do, you will know it.

However, the problem with many, is they don’t know how to make a hit song. And it isn’t as easy as one would thinkg. In order to make a hit, you need to understand what is currently popular. Additionally, to break into the industry you have to be willing to do what other artists aren’t willing to do.

Tips For Success: Compromise

We have to compromise on a daily basis, and it is no different on the road to becoming a music industry elite. You have to be willing to compromise. To clarify, you need to compromise your individuality what music is currently relevant.

Record companies are looking for someone they know will sell. They also want artists that will sell right away. Then, once you get into the industry and make it, you can start to branch out. You can start to pursue your style.

Tips For Success: Entrepreneur Mindset

The problem with some musicians is their mindset. As an artist, you need to view yourself as an entrepreneur. Additionally, you need to have an entrepreneur mindset and spirit. In other words, your art is the business, and you’re building it up.

You have to hustle for yourself like a business. You have to network and leave a memorabe impression. For instance, if you go to an event, network with everyone there. You never know who they know or how they may be able to help you. The music industry is the people business and you have to utilize people to create more opportunities for yourself.

Imagine if you were in a gang and ended up spending 17 years in prison.  What would you do when you got out?  What would your life after prison look like?  DJ Verrett was there before. His advice is that you have to change your mindset.  Additionally, you have to change everything.

Change is hard. Changing everything about yourself is even harder. Nonetheless, it is important for growth. The guest this week makes hard change look easy. He is the true against all odds story.

The Against All Odds Radio Show Presents:

How Crip Gang Member Became A Sons Of Anarchy Actor After 17 Years In Prison

Life After Prison: DJ Verrett Change Your Mindset Change Everything

In this episode, Sean V Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams dive deep into change.  Of course change is necessary, but how you change is just as important.  Today, they sit down with DJ Verrett.  DJ was a crip gang member who spent 17 years in prison.  Despite this, he changed everything and became a Sons of Anarchy actor.

About DJ Verrett & His Life After Prison

Once upon a time, DJ Verrett went by many “terms”.  Gang banger, troubled, and convict were just a few of them. Rightfully so, as he was a Crip gang member.  This was a result of his environment, as well as the choices he made.

However, Verrett had an epiphany that changed his life. Verrett made his past his greatest asset. He worked on his mental health and found “freedom within”. Against all odds, he surpassed those labels and built a life to be proud of.

Today, DJ is many things.  He is an author with his book An Inside Job.  Additionally, he is an actor with several roles, including the television show Sons of Anachary.  Lastly, he is a Motivational Speaker, Clinical Supervisor and Mentor.

Life After Prison: Change Your Mindset To Change Everything

Life Before Prison

Verrett grew up in California with his mother and younger sister. The Crips were the gang associated with his neighborhood. From the age of 12, he was enticed by it. “It was the lifestyle. I was looking for. Acceptance, companionship, and understanding.” Referring to the Crips as a fraternity, it offered him all of those things and more.

DJ didn’t join the Crips to get into trouble.  “Nobody joins the fraternity looking to wreak havoc.  It’s when you add other things that it can sometimes become nefarious”, Verrett told the host. Additionally, Verrett explains that the “other things” are the warring of different fraternities. Gangs have evolved.  From protecting your neighborhood to then holding it hostage, gangs have changed.

Hustle, Grind or Starve

Verrett made it very clear that he chose this life for himself.  He doesn’t blame anyone else. However, he explains that many factors led him there. From a young age, his mother emphasized that he was going to be the man of the house. Verrett grew up without a father or a positive male role model.  He didn’t understand what that meant.

Eventually the fraternity took him in.  They offered him a way to provide for his family. Finally, he saw a way to become the man of the house. When you come from a low-income area, there are not many other options. If you aren’t good at basketball or rapping, hustling is the last option left to you.

Turning Point

Over time, the Crips developed DJ to the point where he began leading them. Then, in February of 1990, Verrett’s life would change forever. Three of Verrett’s fellow gang members were caught by federal agents with cocaine in their possession.

They revealed that Verrett had given it to them. As a result, their testimony put Verrett on the hot set.  He was put on trial at the age of 19 years old. At such a young age, Verrett was also put on the spot.  He had 60 seconds to decide if he was to plead guilty to a 20-year prison sentence or not.

Verrett didn’t know what to do.  The prosecutor was literally counting down the seconds.  DJ knew that the deck was not in his favor. So, he pleaded guilty.  At the age of 19 years old, DJ received a prison sentence for more years than he had been alive.

Words For People In This Lifestyle

DJ wasn’t prepared for the risks associated with the gang life.  Gangs don’t warn or prepare new members for the potential consequences.  More importantly, they don’t prepare anyone for the potential of going to prison.

With that in mind, DJ doesn’t blame anyone but himself.  He takes full responsibility for his actions. In an effort to help the current generation, DJ tries to deter the youth from joining the “fraternity”.  He shares his experiences and the risks of the lifestyle to help them.

Life During Prison

The Beginning

At the start of his sentence, DJ was bitter.  Realizing everything he learned was a lie, he was angry at everyone. He felt that he “gave his life and will” to the fraternity.  He thought they had his best interest in mind.  However, at the end of the day, they didn’t.

The Turning Point: Change Your Mindset to Change Everything

16 years into his sentence, DJ had an epiphany. While intoxicated, a friend stated that he couldn’t live like that anymore. Additionally, others mentioned that he had always been that way. This is the moment that turned his life around.

DJ looked in the mirror and heard a voice say “freedom is on the inside”. That was the catalyst.  It was his turning point. He realized there was only one thing that he needed to change.  Everything!  He needed to change everything!

“What drives me is to be the point of reference for anybody who has been to prison or is in a prison of their own making, which is between their ears.” DeJuan DJ Verrett

Life After Prison

Life After Prison: Sons of Anarchy

DJ’s life after prison is the true against all odds story.  He was walking on the street when a couple walked up to him.  They said they liked his look and would be perfect in their TV show.

Confused, DJ questioned what they meant.  He nearly hit the floor laughing when they said the part was a convict. The rest was history, and DJ joined the cast of Sons of Anarchy.

On set, they asked his opinion on the accuracy of the scenes. After giving them advice, he eventually had to realistically act things out. For this reason they utilized his advice for many scenes.

DJ appreciated that they valued his opinion.  He enjoyed being involved in the process of writing, acting, and consulting.

Life After Prison: Change Your Mindset: Giving Back

Despite his success in the entertainment industry, he felt the call to go back to prison.  But, this time it would be different.  He wanted to go back on his own terms to help others. This was his second epiphany.

DJ followed this calling and went back to school. Eventually, he was hired as the clinic supervisor.  In this role, he would help prisoners.  He preached to them his “change your mindset” mentality.  Additionally, he taught them that they had to change everything.

Life After Prison: Facing The Past

Verrett eventually ran into one of his former gang members.  It was the man who taught him how to deal.  Additionally, it was the person who put him away. The last time DJ saw him, it was testimony at his trial.

DJ never thought this would happen. However, DJ followed his new path and said, “I have only one thing to say to you.  I’m sorry”. Verrett apologized for giving him something he couldn’t handle.  He apologized for assisting in his life going down this path.

Confused, DJ’s former gang member broke into tears.  “You are apologizing to me” he questioned.  “After what I did to you?”

Verrett replied, “It’s not what you did to me, it’s what you did for me.   Look where I am today.” Without him, Verrett completely changed his thinking.  He understood that his time in prison led to this change. Lastly, he understood that that anger didn’t serve him to hold on to.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a Navy SEAL? What about a multi millionaire entrepreneur? Well, both require a huge amount of training & development. Also, they both take incredible amounts of determination, mental strength and perseverance.

Also, Navy SEALs are known for their mental toughness, self-discipline and absolute refusal to give up. Plus, they undergo the most rigorous training & development in the world. So, who would be better suited to explain the importance of training?

The Against All Odds Radio Show Presents:

From Navy Seal Officer to Multi-Million Entrepreneur: Training & Development Is Life Or Death

On this episode, Sean V. Bradley, CSP, L.A. Williams and Joe Kalitz spoke to Lt. Commander Sean Matson. They talked about his experiences with the US Military. And they discussed how training and development played a major role in Matson’s success as a SEAL.

Also, they were able to pinpoint how his training and development as a SEAL helped him grow in the business world. Overall, they agreed that all of the amazing skills, training and development that is done in the military, translates very smoothly into the business world.

About Sean Matson

The CEO of Matbock and Lt. Commander Navy SEAL, Sean Matson, did not become a success overnight. From the beginning, people doubted him. And his school teachers wrote him off as a dumb. Plus, the navy recruiters told him he didn’t have what it took to be a SEAL.

But, Matson didn’t listen to any of it. Because, he knew that he was born to be great, and he never lost his determination. So, he ended up serving as a Navy SEAL officer for over ten years. Then, he became the CEO of Matbock, a company that creates high tech military equipment. Basically, Sean Matson is another prime example of a person who never gave up on his dreams. And made the impossible into a reality.

Show Notes: From Navy Seal Officer to Multi-Million Entrepreneur, Training & Development is Critical

Why Training & Development Is A Step By Step Process

Think about what it takes to be a Navy SEAL. Yes, it takes determination, perseverance and strength. But, do you think those things alone make a SEAL? Do they just find someone with those qualities, hand them a machine gun and throw them out of a helicopter? No way. They have to undergo elite training before they even set foot in combat. Would you want to be in a life or death situation without training and development?

For example, Navy SEAL Sean Matson, spent hours upon hours just practicing how to remove his weapon from its holster. He mastered that act, to the point where he could do it in his sleep. THEN, he moved onto skills like loading it or shooting it. This effort for perfection is what characterizes a success from a failure.

So, the same thing is true in any industry. You have to practice and master step 1 before you move on to steps 2,3 and 4. If you don’t, it could be the death of your success.

Escalation of Training

Joe Kalitz, the Director of Operations at Dealer Synergy, offered insight on Sean Matson’s training tips. Joe spent six years in the US Army as an Airborne Infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division. His insight is, training on each step of a process is extremely important. For example, when infantrymen are training, they don’t start day 1 in combat with live ammunition.

First, they start with blanks during the day. When that step is perfected, they escalate the training, to the next step. This is repeated until training is perfected. The bottomline is, you need to master every step before you go out in the field with live ammunition. The same is for business!

Training & Development Is Ongoing

Also, as Sean V. Bradley CSP. always says, training is something you do, not something you did. So, what does that really mean? It means if you want to be a master of something, it is a skill you have to constantly put effort into. It is something you have to keep working at, and working at. Over and over again.

For example, do you think once Lt. Commander Sean Matson became a SEAL, the training was over? He served as a SEAL for ten years! There is no way that he could continue to be effective without constantly working out and practicing his skills. This is true for everybody aspiring to be a master of anything.

When Training Gets Tough

Joe Kalitz emphasized what expert Navy SEALs preach. Which is, when your mind is telling you you’re done, you’re really only 40 percent done. Joe explained that he would just lie to himself during training, constantly telling himself that he wasn’t in pain. Reminding himself that the training was almost done. In doing so, Joe was able to prevent his mind from placing physical limitations.

So, whether you are literally in combat, freezing cold, starving and wet. Or, you are struggling with learning a new skill in business: you have to remember never to quit. Even when you think you are completely done–chances are, you still have a fight left in you!

What Do Navy SEALs And Multi Millionaire Entrepreneurs Have In Common?

Teamwork & Perseverance Toward A Common Goal

Both Navy SEALs and multi million dollar making entrepreneurs have perseverance. Which means, they don’t give up. Because, they are persistent, especially in the face of obstacles or challenges. So, if you are an entrepreneur or simply just want to be more successful in any avenue of life, you can’t give up.

So, when things get hard, you have to push back harder. When things are going good, you can’t lay back and be lazy. You constantly have to keep putting in the work

Training & Developing Mental Strength

Mental strength describes the ability a person has to effectively deal with stressful situations. Sean Matson was able to act effectively in combat! Which is literally the most stressful and horrible situation a person can be in.

So, in order to live your life with the swiftness of a Navy SEAL, staying mentally strong is key. Because, when a million things are being thrown at you all at once, being able to slow down and calmly respond is crucial.

Celebrity Pitch Queen, Forbes Riley, Sold Over $2.5 Billion in Products By Keeping It Real

Trust Your Magical Intuition If You Want To Close More Deals

Riley explains that her childhood wasn’t pretty. No, in-fact it was ugly: she was chubby, sported a broken nose and braces for eight years. She didn’t really have any friends her age and she was kind of socially awkward. But, she had something. She had a desire to do and be the best, even when everyone doubted her. She trusted her inner magic.

With life being so short, human kind being so fragile, don’t let your dreams be left behind. Riley explained that before she published (three of her many) books, she had them sitting in a drawer in her room. She would write them, someone would tell her they weren’t any good, and away they would go.

Don’t let your dreams get dusty in some drawer, somewhere. Believe in yourself and make your dreams happen! Trusting yourself, believing in your goals is a must, if you are ever going to close more deals & boost sales.

Your 'Breakthrough Moment' Is A Must Do, To Close More Deals

“What is your first memory?” Forbes Riley asks Sean from behind her crystal ball (seriously, she already knew) during the radio show. According to Forbes, that’s what you need to do. Examine your first memory and how you reacted to it. For many people, that first memory is painful, involving violence or abuse.

So what you need to do is go through the memories, go through your reactions. If your first memory was, for example, falling off a horse. What did you do? Did you lay in the dirt and cry, or did you get back up on that horse? Regardless of what you decided to do– going forward in life you need to create your reaction. If you laid in the dirt and cried as a kid, that’s okay. Now is the time to change your course. Get up, dust off your butt and get back on the horse!

That’s what successful people like Forbes Riley, Sean V. Bradley and L.A. Williams do. If you want to close more deals & increase sales, pause for a moment and look at your life. Until you analyze your first failure and how you responded to it, you can’t kill it in your field. Find your ‘breakthrough moment’ and closing more deals & increasing sales will become natural.

Forbes Riley's Tips on How To Close More Deals

Take Advantage Of The Times To Close More Deals & Increase Sales

When Forbes Riley started in sales there was no Facebook, no Twitter–there wasn’t even texting! So, if you are in sales, you must take advantage of Social media. Sales is all about energy and connectivity. In order to sell your energy needs to be so infectious that it leaps from you to your buyer.

If you aren’t in person, what is the second best method of communication? Social media! Don’t be afraid to use social media as a communication tool  between you and future or current clients. It can be as personal as sending a direct message or comment, to as macro as a Tweet that can be seen by millions of potential buyers.

Sell Wants, Not Needs To Increase Sales

Stop telling people what they need. People don’t buy the things they need: they buy the things they want. If you are pitching a product, selling a product–or promoting your brand/image–tell people why they should want what you have. For example, if you are pitching a product, offer information about why your product or brand is amazing.

After you do that, it’s all about getting the yes. Frame your questions in a way that will get you a “yes.” For example, a question like, “Do you want the secret to happiness?” Of course they do! Once you get them to agree, to say “yes,” you are on your way to close more deals & increase sales.

Close More Deals Through Relatability

According to Forbes Riley, if you want to close more deals & increase sales you have to be relatable. In order for someone to feel like they want your product (brand, image or what ever you are selling) they need to be able to relate it to their own life. Make yourself relatable, make your product relatable!

For example, Forbes will make herself relatable to the average Joe, in order to sell a high end product. She might say something like, ‘Look, I grew up with no money. Sure, this car is on the more expensive side, but the quality is fantastic. I would know, I spent my early life driving around clunkers.’ There is always a way to relate to your client; you just have to find it.

The 3 C’s to Everlasting Change

There are three C’s that can bring everlasting change.

Clarity

First is clarity.  If you study most people who do really dumb things, they were not clear when they did it.  The problem is, most people don’t know they need clarity of mind unless they realize that they need it.  There are a lot of people who don’t know they need clarity of mind.  Tim states “When you are deceived, you don’t know you are deceived, because you are deceived.

Calm

Second is to find your area of calm.  The calm is found in the quiet; however, most people do not like the quiet, it freaks them out.  Most people think that chaos has to be a part of their life.  It does not!  Like keeping your home clean, you can also keep your mind clean.  Tim does mind maintenance throughout each day.  In the calm and quiet, the real you will speak up.  The real you is not just your mindset, it’s coming from your spirit.  Your spirit will rise up many times and say, “What the hell are you doing?”  If you can find your area of calm, your quiet, your spirit will have the chance to speak up.

Change

Finally, the third C to bring everlasting change is change.  Change is a choice.  There are a lot of people that need to change but don’t choose to change.  You have to change your people, places, and things.  You can’t bring everlasting change if you don’t change your who, what, and where.

Show Notes: Life Coaching & Mental Mindset Tips

[01:02] – Not only is today’s guest’s background amazing, but the work that he does and the giving that he does is incredible.  Today’s guest is the one and only, Tim Storey.

[03:00] – A timeout to thank one of our sponsors, Car.com!

Car.com practically started the online shopping experience.  Let Car.com help you find your next vehicle!

[04:01] – For more information and interaction, download Clubhouse and follow Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams.

Join them every weekday morning at 7:00 AM EST for their show, Morning Motivations with a Real Multi Millionaire”.

[04:19] – Tim Storey starts the show talking about working with Oprah.  In addition to working with Oprah, Tim also had the pleasure of working with Quincy Jones.

[07:49] – Having so many conversations with brilliant people, Tim has a list he calls Things I Have Learned From People I Know.  He attributes a lot of his success and impact has come from those he has spoken to and worked with.  At the top of his list is his 15 year journey with Kanye West and his ability to draw outside of the lines.

[12:23] – Why do top level celebrities have Tim Storey around?  What does Tim bring to the table for them?  All else aside, Tim says that it is because he is a master of turning setbacks into comebacks.

[14:15] – There are three primary ways people learn.  First is education.  Secondly is conversation.  The third is observation.  Typically, people first start to learn through education and school.  From there, they typically then learn through conversation.  Finally, people finish their learning through observation.

[18:35] – Coming from a childhood with many hardships, Tim felt a calling that he was meant to help people.  Slowly unfolding, Tim’s calling has been developing since the age of 10.

[22:14] – A timeout to thank our sponsors, Scar Food and Car.com!

Scarfood is a series of products and creams designed specifically to nourish and repair scars.

[23:34] – There are different areas of your life: spiritual, physical, mental clarity of mind, job, finances, social, and family.  Typically, when one area of a person’s life takes a hit, they are usually messed up and trying to recover that one area.  Tim says that we are always going through recovery and discovery at the same time.  Recovery of the things we are going through right now, but also recovery of the things we went through in the past.  You have to make sure you don’t stay in the recovery zone, or you will end up missing your discovery zone.

[28:30] – There are only 86,400 seconds in a day.  Once they are gone, they’re gone.  There are no do overs.  So, you have to live life to the fullest and try to maximize every opportunity.

[29:00] – “A setback is a setup for a comeback”.  Robert Downey Jr made this famous for Tim Storey.  Typically, if someone has a setback, they tend to sit in the setback.  Usually, people try to “medicate” themselves so they don’t feel it so bad.  This is where different vices come into play.  A vice can be working too much, drinking too much, or getting addicted to things so they don’t have to feel.  Secondly, people settle into their setbacks.  They decide to discount themselves.  It is like when you go to a store and they put themselves on sale.  The question is, will you put yourself on sale?

[32:32] – Tim shares his advice to change your mindset to turn a setback into a comeback.  There are three C’s that can bring everlasting change.

[36:12] – Second is to find your area of calm. The real you is not just your mindset, its coming from your spirit.  Your spirit will rise up many times and say, “What the hell are you doing?”  If you can find your area of calm, your quiet, your spirit will have the chance to speak up.

[41:14] – A timeout to thank our sponsors, Car.com and Scar Food!

For more information and interaction, download Clubhouse and follow Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams.  Join them every weekday morning at 7:00 AM EST for their show, Morning Motivations with a Real Multi Millionaire”.

[42:34] – Finally, the third C to bring everlasting change is change.  Change is a choice.  There are a lot of people that need to change but don’t choose to change.  You have to change your people, places, and things.  You can’t bring everlasting change if you don’t change your who, what, and where.

[54:48] – Tim is most proud of being present for his family.  His mother just turned 90 and is in good health.  He has a great relationship with his siblings and his two children.  His children are both successful and creative.

[56:16] – A final timeout to thank our sponsors, Car.com and Scar Food!

How to Build an Award Winning Team From An NBA All Star & Best Selling Author: Mark Eaton

Teamwork is one of the most important building blocks when building a team or an organization.  This is the exact reason why some organizations regularly outperform their competition and become an unstoppable force in the market.  Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams, the hosts of The Against All Odds Radio Show speak with Mark Eaton.  There is no one better to discuss team work with than an NBA All Star, best selling author, award-winning motivational speaker, and entrepreneur.

About Mark Eaton

Mark Eaton is a successful, award-winning motivational speaker, entrepreneur and best selling author of The Four Commitments of a Winning Team, who has earned the coveted CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation, the speaking profession’s highest international measure of professional competence.  Eaton is also a 7′4″ NBA All-Star who played with the Utah Jazz for 12 seasons, led the NBA in blocked shots 4 of those seasons, was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team 5 times, was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year 2 times, and still holds 2 NBA records—most blocks in a single season (456) and career average blocked shots per game (3.5).

3 Key Takeaways

Mark coaches companies and organizations in teamwork.  His presentation is on the Four Commitments of a Winning Team.  He talks about the four distinct principles: Knowing Your Job, Execution, Making Other People Look Good, and Protecting Your Teammates.

Persistence is overlooked in a lot of things.  “If you just focus on a few things that you want to do well, and you do them every single day.  Over time, doors will open, things will happen, you will get better, and the rest will come.”

In order for a team or an organization to be the most successful, they have to work as a team.  A lot of times when businesses are struggling, it’s because the people in the organization are more focused on their problems or other people in the organization than they are in taking care of their customers.  Mark teaches that if you really focus on making the people around you look good, you will have much more success.

Show Notes

Against All Odds Radio Show: How to Build an Award Winning Team From An NBA All Star & Best Selling Author: Mark Eaton

[01:00] – Winning isn’t just being victorious, it is also overcoming adversity.  Additionally, most people that want to win, want to win by themselves; however, the most powerful way to win is through synergy and interdependence.

[2:48] – Today’s guest, Mark Eaton, is introduced.  Mark Eaton is an NBA All Star, a member of the NSA (National Speakers Association), and earned the coveted CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation.

[3:00] – A timeout to thank one of our sponsors, Car.com, and for more interactivity, be sure to follow Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams on Clubhouse!

[05:08] – Mark Eaton shares his Against All Odds come up story.  He was a 21 auto mechanic that was not playing basketball at 7’4”.  A Jr College coach convinced him to give basketball another try, leading to UCLA and a 12 year NBA career.

[10:14] – It was an emotional experience the first time Mark stepped on the court as a professional athlete in the NBA.  Mark started to gain respect and the stamp of approval about a month into the regular season.  He was put in the game in the second quarter against the Dallas Mavericks and ended up blocking about 6 shots in 5 minutes.  Mark remembers turning it up the court to run back to the other end.  He glanced over at the coaches and they were looking at each other like “Yeah, he can do this”.  That was the moment Mark knew that he could play this game.

[11:30] – Mark still holds the NBA record for the most blocks in the season at 456.  Mark discusses the pride and excitement in still retaining that record.

[15:57] – Aside from his teammates, Mark talks about some of the people that influenced him while he was in the NBA, including how he worked out in the summers with Wilt Chamberlain.  Hear what Wilt said when he grabbed Mark by the arm and pulled him aside during one of their workouts.

[22:11] – A timeout to thank our sponsors, Scar Food and Car.com!

[23:34] – Mark was fiscally responsible with money, primarily because his salary in his rookie season was $45,000.  When he started making good money, he was a little smarter.  He learned to be fiscally responsible through his financial planner.

[25:43] – A lot of guys from the hood that make it get racked with guilt and feel a responsibility towards the people they grew up with.  Professional athletes make a lot of money while they are playing, but this can lead to many financial problems when they retire and no longer have a large income.  It is pretty phenomenal just to get to the level of a professional athlete, but maintaining the wealth is even more impressive.

[27:55] – Who does Mark Eaton think are the top NBA players?

[31:21] – To take care of his finances goals, Mark lived off of a small percentage of the money he made and invested money into various different avenues.  From broadcasting and restaurant investments, Mark spent over 4 years training to become a professional speaker in the NSA and earn the coveted CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation.

[34:51] – Mark coaches companies and organizations in teamwork.  His presentation is on the Four Commitments of a Winning Team.  He talks about the four distinct principles: Knowing Your Job, Execution, Making Other People Look Good, and Protecting Your Teammates.

[36:39] – Persistence is overlooked in a lot of things.  “If you just focus on a few things that you want to do well, and you do them every single day.  Over time, doors will open, things will happen, you will get better, and the rest will come.”

[39:38] – Mark discusses what kept him going when he was thinking about quitting or when it was hard to go to work everyday.

[41:14] – A timeout to thank our sponsors, Car.com and Scar Food, and for more interactivity, be sure to follow Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams on Clubhouse!

[43:16] – There are a lot of people with the “I” or “Me” mentality.

[47:16] – The best team building exercises begin with simple kindness and not coming into work with an attitude about things that other people are doing wrong.

[51:03] – Team building starts with the people you hire.  Are they qualified?  Are they coachable?  Are they likable?

[56:17] – A final thank you to our sponsors, Car.com and Scar Food!
